American walnut turntable case

An old Dual turntable arrived at DHD Furniture ready for a make over, we made a a new American walnut case for it and retro fitted all of the fittings into the new case so it could just slip back in.  The colours in the walnut look beautiful against the smokey dust cover.  It was built in the 1980's and looks magnificent in it's new skin.

Jarrah memorial bench

We were asked to make a memorial bench, it's a great honour to be asked to make a piece of furniture to remember a persons life.

The location of the bench is in the Scott creek National Park at the top of a hill and the walking trail, a place where walkers can stop for a rest and look across the park.

We chose Jarrah timber for the seat, it's durable and beautiful, an Australian timber which can withstand the elements, finished in exterior danish oil.

An unusual commission

We received a call asking if we would be able to produce a custom case for a pen, it was a special gift. Deon is always thinking about creating  custom pieces  so this was right up his ally and it would be a first as he hadn't made a pen case before.

I remember him saying to me "How do  I make a different pen case, it has to be functional and beautiful with a new angle to it?"

When I saw the end product I knew he had nailed it!

He made it from Cercis Siliquastram a hardwood with very fine grain a 'showoff' piece of timber. Finished with danish oil which is perfect for this timber.

DHD Furniture was the winner of the people's choice award yesterday at the gallery wrap up. What a wonderful surprise! Thanks to everyone who voted, Fox Creek for some choice wine & Gallery Yampu.

Jill and I were kept busy for the whole night chatting to people about my work, it was the first outing for my 2 new pieces, the Hudson consul table and the De Ville chair.  The interest was terrific, thanks very much I am very grateful.  Early on into the night I received some great news with the Hudson table being sold, then the clocks and the chair.  To sell all of my pieces and get wonderful feedback was the icing on the cake.
